What is Quality First?
Developed by the American Association of Housing and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) Quality First is a philosophy of quality and a framework for earning public trust in aging services. It is a renewal of Wesley Homes’ commitment to help older adults and their loved ones live their lives to their fullest potential. Quality First is about involving all stakeholders in the process, including the people we serve and their families.
Why
The Wesley Homes Board of Trustees adopted Quality First to assess and improve performance across the organization in the areas of governance, communication, community outreach, technology, continuous quality improvement, human resources and risk management. Moreover, Quality First challenges us to help consumers better understand their aging-services options and increase public trust in aging services.
Who/How
Eight committees made up of Board members, employees at all levels, residents, family members and community partners meet regularly (monthly or quarterly) to review standards and practices within the ten areas of Quality First:
Commitment & Governance
Human Resources
Community Involvement
Consumer Friendly Information
Continuous Quality Improvement
Research Findings & Education
Leading Edge Care & Services and Consumer Participation
Public Trust and Consumer Confidence
Committee Chairs make up the Quality First Steering Committee which is responsible for reporting measurements, outcomes and committee recommendations to staff and the Board of Trustees.
When
Quality First is a continuous quality improvement program monitored through regular reporting to the Board of Trustees. A special gathering of all committee members will be held each year to celebrate the work that has been done and prepare for the work ahead.
